In this months Agent Spotlight we highlight agent, Todd Buttner. Todd is a Sales and Leasing Associate and has been focusing on retail tenants and landlords. Todd is a Baltimore, MD native and attended Virginia Tech. Lets learn a little bit more about him both personally and professionally.
What is the biggest challenge/opportunity you have face in CRE?
Starting out in March 2020 was tough. Ultimately, it forced me to learn a lot of things quicker than I otherwise would have. It has also been a good learning experience in how to balance my communications and connect with people through other avenues.
What is the one thing you wish people knew about Commercial Real Estate? The economics and process that go into site selection and decision making. When you talk to people, they often wonder why this store or that restaurant isn’t in their neighborhood yet. They seem to think these places pop up by chance, and don’t realize how meticulously calculated a national chain is when picking a location, a developer can be in making sure it’s the best use for a particular piece of land, and whether the local municipality deems the particular use for that land allowable.
What three traits define you? My abilities to be resilient, relatable, and my willingness to raise questions to things that often go unquestioned.
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing CRE? Landscape Design- I would love to work in peoples’ backyards

How do you define success? While I have a long-term vision in mind, I like to think of success on a smaller scale. I try my best to make each day a “win,” and I believe these wins will inevitably compound daily into something that eventually resembles “success.”
